The couple living in this old row house appreciated its historic character but were ready to move into the current century. The house was dark, unevenly and inefficiently heated and cooled, and generally weary and worn out.
We replaced the leaky windows with passive-house-level tilt-turns (simulating double-hung for Landmarks compliance), eliminated the gas line from the house and all the old pipes and radiators, opened up the back wall with glass to the roof deck we had built a few years earlier, and updated the kitchen. The resulting space is light and open-feeling.
