A co-op building in SoHo engaged MESH to design a new shared roof deck. The project required an extension of the elevator core, but the deck and its approach could not rest directly on the roof slab. MESH’s solution was a cantilevered walkway attached to the existing parapet wall. The new roof deck and shade pergola are supported by new dunnage that spans between the parapet walls. The design maximizes the wood surface permitted in New York City, and the structure maintains access to the flat roof for maintenance. This new space allows the tenants to enjoy 360-degree views of the Manhattan skyline.
