The recently done garden apartment of our previous Artist Brownstone project. We opened up the constrained space to a landscape of natural pine, illuminated by a new ceiling mounding composition.
Complete renovation of an old, classic brownstone house.
It is often tricky to combine two apartments into one. Shear walls, plumbing stacks, and structure were not optimized for combination. The challenge here was to create an open family space with an exposed kitchen, where the kitchen had previously been hidden away. The result is a generous 3-bedroom spread with glorious open views and a luxurious chef’s kitchen, completed on a strict budget.
Flanked by aluminum sided residences and low level garages, the bright blue house stands out but remains true to the scale of neighborhood and its industrial roots. Because the original garage filled the entire lot, we were allowed to create an interior courtyard instead of a typical rear yard. MESH exploited this unique situation to create a home that is uniquely connected to the outdoors.
